Search engines guarantee to list pages from your Web site in their database and re-spider them on a regular basis, usually at least once per week. Unlike paid placement, you aren't guaranteed a particular place in the search rankings. This service is really valuable, if you have pages that must be indexed quickly or you update your product listing often.
Inktomi Search/Submit
The SearchSubmit paid inclusion program, while not guaranteeing results in any way, does guarantee that the pages paid for will be spidered and indexed within 48 hours. And because they will be re-spidered every 2 days, any changes made will be indexed quickly.
Inktomi provides primary web search results for HotBot and secondary search results for MSN, About.com, Excite, Overture, and LookSmart, among others. They also provide detailed reporting data: click-throughs, search terms, and average rankings for each URL subscribed to the service.
The cost is $39.00 for the first URL, and $25.00 for each subsequent URL, for a one-year subscription to the service.
Similar services are provided by AltaVista and Lycos, but those programs are more expensive than Inktomi's, and don't generate as much traffic.
